The Spanish have a bit of a reputation for hosting the world’s messiest festivals and now the nation has taken Tough Mudder to another level by devoting a whole day to it.

As if the the Tomatina Tomato Fight (launching tomatoes at each other) and the Batalla del Vino (throwing wine at each other) wasn’t crazy enough, now the locals are slinging mud about too.

The Mud Day event in Toledo, Spain took place on Saturday for the third year in a row and the thousands of attendees seemed to have a grand old time.

Participants in the sporting event got the chance to take part in a muddy obstacle course, which included swimming through brown lakes and crawling under barbed wire.

It all looks pretty bonkers but, then, this is the same country whose citizens enjoy getting chased through the streets by a bull so all bets are off really!
