One college applicant who saw her hopes of attending Duke University dashed wrote a world class reply to the prestigious institution – rejecting their rejection!
Siobhan O’Dell told Duke exactly what she thought of their attempts at snubbing her – and we have to hand it to her – the reply, along with her determination to actually attend the university is magnificent.
After being asked by the Mail just why she took the time to write the rejection of their rejection, she claimed:
They sent me a typical college rejection letter, “This year we had an outstanding pool of applicants…”, blah, blah, blah.
It made me realize how much power universities have over students. Seniors labor over applications, stress over waiting, and sometimes cry over the answer. Then that’s it.
The college has all the power. But what if that wasn’t it? What if we got to treat the college like they treated us? I wanted to give them a taste of their own medicine.
The university then wrote a letter of their own back, making it very clear that they understood her disappointment, but that they could not do very much about it unless they felt she was a very rare case indeed – and from the tone of their letter, that did not look like being the case.
Duke may not want to have Siobhan come admissions time, but we think there will be plenty of takers after this!
