If you’re a history buff that enjoys treasure hunts, then no doubt you have been following this story.

If you haven’t been following the story, have a read of our first write up or quickly absorb these points:

– During World War Two, Nazis had a stash of gold in the city of Breslau (now Wroclaw in Poland)
– The Red Army came along
– Nazis may have packed their gold on a train
– They fled from the Red Army, but the train never reached its destination
– Last week, two lads discovered the train and its supposed contents in a tunnel near Walbrzych. They also want 10 per cent of the value.

Polish authorities have since held a crisis meeting in which they warned treasure hunters not to proceed. Why? Because the train may have been boobytrapped by the Nazis. Classic Nazi tricks.

The deputy mayor of Walbrzych confirmed yesterday there is ‘formal information’ that a military train has indeed been discovered. At this stage there is no mention of valuables, just military equipment. The Polish state treasure and culture ministry have been brought into the mix for good measure.

If the Nazi gold train is definitely found it would be one of the most important historical discoveries ever. Let’s hope the treasure hunters get their finders’ fee.

The only downer at the moment is that it could take six months to dig the train up, assuming it’s buried.
