The most fashionable music player of the 80s is back, only now it has a modern twist and is a lot more expensive. Like, really really REALLY expensive.
The new Walkman was unveiled earlier this week in Las Vegas at CES 2015. Sony said that the Walkman ZX2 will come with a touchscreen, 128 GB of storage of space, 60 hour battery life, WiFi, Bluetooth and Android 4.2 Jellybean which will allow users to downlad Android apps from the Google Play Store.
Sounds pretty cool, right? If you couldn’t already do that stuff on a smartphone that is. And if it didn’t cost as much as two iPhone 6’s. That’s right, the Walkman ZX2 will cost a cool $1,199.99 (£795.22).
For the same price you could buy a 13.3″ Retina MacBook Pro.
But Sony are defending the expense by saying that the device packs an S-Master HX processor, which gives it high-resolution audio capabilities through DSD, WAV, AIFF and FLAC file formats (no MP3?). Basically it’s for the rich mother f*ckers that want their music to sound perfect. And they’ll also be required to buy expensive headphones that will be able to support the high-resolution audio aswell.
The release date of the Walkman hasn’t been announced yet but people are speculating and reckon it will be right around Spring time.
