An anti-gay protester tried to ruin the day at Sydney’s Mari Gras festival by standing on a stepladder with a megaphone and preaching homophobic hatred. So this busker took him on, using the power of Cyndi Lauper.
The preacher started claiming that ‘today is the day God hates you the most if you’re homosexual’. Bold.
24 year old Axel Winter is a street performer that disagreed, so he set up right behind the homophobic loudmouth, and asked that the crowd ‘ignore the words of hate and sing some words of love’.
Then he burst out into ‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ by Cyndi Lauper. The crowd joined in, and the hateful man moved on pretty swiftly.
Personally, I can’t believe this sort of thing still happens. I’m not gay, but I’m not homophobic either. What difference does it make to me if two guys have sex with each other? None. At all. I struggle to understand why people care enough about other peoples private life to stand up and shout about it to strangers. Get a better hobby.
Homophobia doesn’t belong in 2015. Cyndi Lauper singalongs do. Well played, Axel.
