To be honest I thought that this was already happening in China, isn’t Asia obsessed with robotics? But now knowing for sure that it is a thing, and seeing robot waiters in action is definitely awesome.
The robots follow a magnetic strip on the ground and have optical sensors that allow them to go back and forth from the kitchen.
Lu Dike, the restaurant owner, said the robots cost him $9,400 (£6,033) and come with a five year warranty. This might sound like a lot of money but if you think about the staff he’s replacing, they would have easily cost more than that over the course of five years. And the novelty of being served by robots is getting a lot of attention by tourists and locals alike.
I’d say he made a pretty good investment.
