A top met police officer has claimed that porn’s effect on young people is ‘catastrophic’.

Chief Superintendent John Sutherland has blamed graphic online pornography for the ‘catastrophic sexualisation’ of young boys and girls. Apparently, easy access to extreme material is corroding their lives and destroying their innocence.

Writing on his blog he said:

I am a police officer, I am a dad, I am a human being and these things are happening on my watch. [It’s] what some young boys seem to expect; what some young girls seem to accept.

There is so much that might be said about the catastrophic sexualisation of young people – but words honestly fail me.

There is only so much picking up of the pieces that policing can do. These are our children. And there is a loss of innocence in our society – on our streets and in our homes. It breaks my heart.

He blames porn for one case he encountered in which a group of teenage boys prepared a flat for rape, lured a young girl there, gang-raped her, and then forensically cleaned up the flat afterwards.

Apparently porn also made a 15-year-old boy rape another teenage boy at knife point.

While these are absolutely disgusting crimes, I don’t think it is a case of good people being corrupted by porn to do evil things. Clearly the people who think it’s OK to commit these acts are already pretty fucked up, and banning porn isn’t going to make them better.
