One train passenger in south east London was subjected to a horrendous ordeal after refusing to hand his top hat over to a group of thugs – and suffered fractures to his left eye and nose – and had to undergo surgery to correct the damage after regaining consciousness and getting himself to hospital.
Jacky Pautonnier had been in possession of the top hat since 2008 when one of his children, Alex, told him it suited him while on a trip to France – and Jacky claimed it soon became his ‘trademark’ and now feels lost without the hat.
He spoke about his ordeal and claimed:
I was wearing my top hat and this guy carrying bags of spirits pestered me on the platform.
The guy said, ‘hey mate, can I try on your top hat’ but the way he asked me wasn’t very nice. Usually it wouldn’t be a problem but I said no and he wasn’t very happy.
The 54 year old even had to undergo reconstructive surgery after the horrendous attack and still misses his hat which was taken in the attack, despite getting a new one, as he claimed it simply did not feel the same, leading to a group of kind hearted people setting up a fund to raise £200 to buy him a new one.
