One bouncer has been shot in a drive-by while working outside of popular Newcastle nightclub Tup Tup on Saturday night.
Apparently, the bouncer’s injuries are not yet known, but he is thought to be alive and has been identified as ‘Matthew’ but no further details have emerged over his condition, with police keen to find out further information about the shooting.
Supt Chris Sharman claimed:
We know incidents like this cause concern and I would like to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to trace the person responsible for this incident.
If anyone has any information we would urge them to come forward and speak to us.
One unnamed witness spoke about the event and added:
I was stood outside the club when I heard a noise that sounded like a car backfiring but much louder than normal.
Then, about 20 seconds later, the radio opened up and I found out it was a gun. I heard the police say someone went past on a bike. Someone had been shot. They thought it was a shotgun. And they needed units and an ambulance immediately.
The club is somewhere that not only gets packed out with locals every weekend, but also has the ‘stars’ of Geordie Shore visit on a frequent basis along with Ed Sheeran and Kanye West, with the club’s website branding it a ‘premier hotspot’ in the city.
The shooting follows a terrible weekend for the city, with a 19 year old stabbed in the city centre and a 24 year old man also found dead by the A1.
