Twitter could introduce an age restriction and a ban on pornographic images after a recent outcry over the amount of unrestricted nude photos on the social platform.

At the moment, there are no rules against the distribution of XXX imagery on the popular website and there are hundreds and thousands of accounts dedicated to doing this. Channel 4’s recent investigation discovered that up to 500,000 pornographic images are tweeted every single day.

However recent complaints are that there are no controls to stop children from seeing these explicit photos (and now videos) as the site doesn’t ask for a user’s age and allows anyone to look at content without signing up.

Recently, porn companies have even asked for a restriction on their content on Twitter, much like the 18 plus filter than Facebook offers them.

Mark Hassell of Paul Raymond publications said:

I think Twitter should look at filtering and putting in an 18+ restriction. I think everyone in the adult industry would think that’s the right thing. We have children and younger family members and don’t want them seeing stuff that is too full-on and inappropriate.

Fair enough. Do you think Mark has a point? Do you enjoy the freedom that Twitter allows its users? Should kids under the age of 18 even be on Twitter?

These are all questions that are often asked.
