They say that prison can change people, but this is a turn up for the books.
Mikhail Gallatinov is a 40 year old paedophile that was convicted for the murder of Adrian Kaminsky, in Manchester in 1997.
Marc Goodwin is serving a life sentence for the murder of Malcolm Benfold in Blackpool in 2007.
The pair of them were very homophobic when they went in to prison, and both of their victims were gay. But in an unexpected turn of events, they got married in a ceremony at Full Sutton prison, near York.
A spokesperson for the Prison Service said:
We are very clear that if prisoners do get married, the taxpayer does not foot the bill for the ceremony, and they are certainly not allowed to share a cell.
The brother of Goodwins victim, Tony Benfold, isn’t happy:
How can you go out and kill a man for being gay and then have a gay wedding in prison? I can’t see any logic in it.
It’s Britain’s first gay marriage behind bars. The pair wore suits to the 15 minute ceremony, which was attended by four relatives.
