After releasing a no make-up selfie, Tyra Banks has almost broken the internet, with the support and backlash being fired at her in equal measure.

The picture was taken to prove to people that even supermodels have some help, and Banks claimed she was ‘keeping it real’, releasing a picture of herself with full make-up on the day after, making the point that both pictures are vastly different, but still real.

This was the no make-up picture:

Banks claimed:

It’s real because I’m keepin’ it REAL by admitting I need to put stuff on my face to look like a supermodel. (Add a lil’ retouching and Wham, the final look is complete!) Yeah, I wished I woke up looking flawless, but that just ain’t me. Not at all. And I’m not ashamed to admit it. None of us should be. #RougeAndReal.

And here is the one with make-up:

Yesterday, I woke up and felt like showing you the me you deserved to see. #RawAndReal Today, I want to continue to keep it real. Why? Because we ALL know I don't walk around looking like the bare-faced photo I posted yesterday. Almost everyday, I rock mascara, blush up my cheeks and throw concealer on those damn dark circles under my eyes I was so tempted to touch up on my raw pic yesterday. The painted face you're looking at right now…THIS is REALLY me, too. Is it raw? Heck no! Is it real? The jury's out on that, but I say, "Yeah." I know what you're thinking. "What???!!!" It's real because I'm keepin' it REAL by admitting I need to put stuff on my face to look like a supermodel. (Add a lil' retouching and Wham, the final look is complete!) Yeah, I wished I woke up looking flawless, but that just ain't me. Not at all. And I'm not ashamed to admit it. None of us should be. #RougeAndReal

To me, that seems a positive message for young girls and guys out there, especially in the world of Instagram, where everything is filtered and taken from good angles, so to call Banks for being a feminist or just saying that the picture is awful is bang out of order.

Yeah, it’s not the best picture in the world, but she looks far from bad.

Frankly, I think it’s a stand up thing for her to do, and given the model has often spoken out about her struggles with weight and being in the public eye, getting judged for her looks alone, it at least shows young girls who are trying to aspire to be what they see on magazine covers that people don’t wake up looking airbrushed and perfect.

In fact, more often than not, the reality is far from it.
