The McGregor and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) beef shows no sign of resolving itself anytime soon, with the UFC rejecting the fighter’s offer to stay on the UFC 200 card.
Only the other day Conor McGregor released a lengthy statement about his alleged retirement, explaining he wanted to focus on training and worried that a promo world tour may impact his chances of beating Nate Diaz in a rematch.
In Conor’s defence, the publicity he drummed up around his ‘retirement’ probably did more for the event than him going to a bunch of different press conferences all over the world.
However TMZ are reporting that the UFC isn’t happy with Conor and they’ve decided to show the fighter who’s really in charge, rejecting his offer to come back and headline UFC 200.
Reportedly the group are unhappy with the way McGregor handled the situation as they tried to accommodate him as best they could for this press tour.
Their source said:
Not only did UFC offer to fly Conor to every destination on a top-of-the-line private jet…but also offered to ship out every single piece of his gym equipment from Iceland to Vegas for this weekend’s media event so there wouldn’t be a kink in Conor’s training.
We’re told McGregor was told his gym would be set up identically to his Iceland training centre and it would all be ready to go the second he stepped off the plane.
While on the face of things that may not seem like a bad offer, the UFC don’t seem to understand the impact that travel will have on Conor’s training regime.
And while it’s a nice gesture, doing a press tour is going to be pretty gruelling and probably not the best thing to be doing in the run up to his fight.
Nevertheless, it seems like the UFC are sticking to their guns on this and I suspect it probably won’t be the last we hear on this.
