Police in Newquay have slapped a ban on the Borat-style mankini and after outlawing them it has apparently helped contribute towards an improvement in behaviour in the community.
The crackdown has also included a stricter ruling on excess drinking and public disorder which has helped to turn the area into a more family friendly place as opposed to a hotspot for stag and hen parties.
Speaking about the ‘heyday’ of the mankini, Newquay’s Mayor, Dave Sleeman, said:
I remember back in the 2000s, you couldn’t walk the streets on a Saturday without seeing someone wearing a mankini or what have you.
But now they’re not allowed in Newquay. The police will tell them to go home and get changed if they see them wearing one, and the guest houses and camp sites are pretty good at warning their guests about what’s acceptable.
Since the ban, reports of antisocial behaviour have dropped dramatically – so we expect a widespread ban on those brightly coloured mankinis pretty soon.
