A new Conservative MP has thanked a voter who drew a penis next to his name on the ballot paper, as it was counted as a legitimate vote!
Glyn Davies was elected as the Tory MP in Montgomeryshire thanks in part to the ill-advised protest sketch by one member of the electorate.
Davies explained on Facebook that although the doodle was probably not intended as a vote for him, it was actually accepted as one.
On Facebook, Davies wrote:
One voter decided to draw a detailed representation of a penis instead of a cross in my box on one ballot paper.
Amazingly, because it was neatly drawn within the confines of the box the returning officer deemed it a valid vote. I’m not sure the artist meant it to count, but I am grateful. If I knew who it was, I would like to thank him (or her) personally.
Apparently this wasn’t the only instance of dick pics in this year’s General Election, either.
This seems like a bit of a flaw in the system to me and I imagine the person who used their art skills is now very much regretting it.
But, hey, since most people would agree that all politicians are pricks anyway maybe this is how we should all vote in future?
