The White House was placed on emergency lockdown earlier today after an unattended package was found across the street in Lafayette Park.
A Secret Service spokeswoman Nicole Mainor confirmed the news to Reuters, and bomb technicians and the D.C. fire department were called to the scene at around 3pm ET on Wednesday afternoon.

The “all clear” was given less than an hour later – ABC News reporter Jon Parkinson tweeted the package was “declared safe” at around 3.40pm, citing Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary.
Per Secret Service Spox Brian Leary: "Package declared safe. All clear – streets are in process of reopening."
