One woman has been found dead after spending all night sat in a McDonald’s restaurant.
The incident took place in Hong Kong, with the woman initially entering the McDonald’s and ordering a glass of water, then sitting down.
According to staff, she was initially moving, and it took until the next morning for anyone to notice that something was wrong with her.
That was in part because rents in Hong Kong are so high that people don’t bat an eyelid when seeing homeless people spend the night in restaurants to keep themselves safe and warm.
Even a 30 square foot flat would set you back HK$2,000 a month to rent, which is around £170, far higher than many workers in the Chinese city can afford.
The woman, believed to be in her 50s or 60s, was discovered dead at 8.30am on Saturday morning, despite slumping over on the table at 1.30am, while people ate their late night meals around her.
A police statement said:
Officers arrived upon a report from a female customer (that a person was found to have fainted).
The subject was certified dead at the scene.
