Disgraced footballer Adam Johnson is reportedly back in work after landing a job as a prison barber.
It’s a bit of a step down from his £60,000 a week salary, but the former Sunderland player is said to be earning £20 a week giving haircuts, reports The Sun.
The 28-year-old, who was jailed for six years following a conviction for grooming and sexual activity with a minor, is apparently working six-hour days while he does a training course.
A source told The Sun:
Johnson is trying to keep his head down and avoid problems with other inmates.
Some are slightly annoyed because he has landed quite a cushy job, does not have to work too hard and even gets two hours off for lunch. But no one has given him trouble about it.
He opted to avoid coaching football as staff were worried he could get injured if someone targeted him.
Johnson has apparently stated that he hopes to return to football on his release and is currently appealing to overturn both his conviction and his sentence.
If he doesn’t get his conviction quashed, he could be 34 by the time he’s released – he’s hardly going to be the most sought after player in the world…
