A man has been jailed after forcing his girlfriend to stick to a strict exercise regime and live only on tuna so she would have a ‘huge ass like Kim Kardashian’.
Mohammed Anwaar, 27, from Sheffield, taunted girlfriend Gemma Doherty, 30, with photos of celebrities, forcing her to run on a treadmill for hours on end, reports the International Business Times.
In an appalling campaign of physical and mental abuse lasting over two years, Ms Doherty described how Anwaar forced her to eat up to 50 cans of tuna a week and demanded that she mirror fitness guru Gracyanne Barbosa.
According to The Sun, he would relentlessly compare her with pictures of Barbosa, forcing her to do sit-ups and physically assaulting her if she refused.
Speaking about the brutal abuse, mother-of-two Ms Doherty told Sheffield Crown Court:
He treated me like an animal – almost like a guinea pig in a laboratory. He wanted me to have abs and a huge ass – a big one like Kim Kardashian. He would only let me eat tuna and beetroot.
I was wasting away, I felt like a zombie on autopilot and was at his beck and call – whatever and whenever.
Ms Doherty also told the court how Anwar had once held a knife to her throat and threatened to kill her while her son hid under the bed.
Anwaar – who has previous convictions for violent attacks – pleaded guilty to coercive and controlling behaviour, as well as nine counts of assault and criminal damage and was handed a two-and-a-half year prison sentence.
His is one of the first sentences to be given since the new ‘coercive or controlling behaviour’ legislation – was introduced in December 2015.
