A woman missing since August has been found chained up ‘like a dog’ in a padlocked metal container in rural South Carolina.
Greenville Police found Kala Brown, 30, on a property in Wofford Road, Spartanburg County weeks after bizarre Facebook updates were posted on her partner Charlie Carver’s page.
The couple were reported missing on August 31.
Authorities were searching a property after getting a tip from a sex crime investigator when they heard loud banging from a metal storage container, WYFF4 reports.
Police said Todd Kohlhepp, a 45-year-old registered sex offender who owned the property, was arrested.
Sheriff Chuck Wright said Brown was chained up around the neck like an animal and was lucky to be found alive. It is believed she had suffered in those conditions for two months.
He said the victim and Kohlhepp knew each other, adding her abduction was ‘not a random act’, according to Sky News.
The sheriff said Brown told investigators there might be four more bodies on the 100-acre property, and guns and ammunition were also discovered.
He said: “We’re trying to make sure we don’t have a serial killer on our hands.”
Throughout the investigation, eerie Facebook updates were posted on Carver’s page.
Some posts were random and bizarre updates, and at one point, his relationship status was changed so it said he was married to Brown.
In October, someone allegedly posing as Carver uploaded and deleted an old picture of the couple, Brown’s best friend Lindsey Mayson told The Daily Beast. The caption said‘we are fine,’ but Mayson said it was not him, adding: His Facebook posts have been hacked. It’s not him posting.’
Brown has since been taken to hospital, but details of her condition are not known at this stage.
Brown’s 32-year-old boyfriend, Charles Carver, who has also been missing since August, remains unaccounted for.
Our thoughts are with Brown, Carver and their friends and family.
