A paedophile who got caught trying to arrange sex with a 13-year-old boy has claimed that it was all a misunderstanding caused by his short sightedness.
60-year-old Charles Lawrence III, explained he misread a text message and claimed he thought the boy he was arranging to meet was 18, the New York Daily News reports.
Lawrence was sentenced to two years in jail on Friday for ‘enticing a minor’ after an undercover investigation caught him using Grindr to meet young boys last year.
Ten other men were caught by the undercover operation which was formed as part of a U.S. reality show called Hansen vs Predator.
His lawyer said Lawrence believed he was meeting a teen of legal age before he was arrested in the October 2015 sting in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Lawyer Edward Gavin said:
The text he received had a one and a three which he mistook for a one and an eight.

As he was sentenced, Lawrence claimed that he wasn’t a paedophile despite telling the teenage boy that he would be the teenager’s sex teacher.
Lawrence, a former accountant, pleaded guilty in April to second-degree attempted sexual assault, attempted risk of injury to a minor, and enticing a minor to give an obscene performance.
Hansen vs Predator will start airing in the U.S. on September 12 as part of the syndicated series Crime Watch Daily.
