Turns out that the Terminator franchise is as difficult to kill as the titular cyborg, with Arnie confirming that a sixth movie is in development.

Arnold Schwarzenegger broke the news himself while speaking to Australia’s Channel 9, and while there are no concrete details, his answer seemed to confirm that he will be back for a sixth film, Digital Spy reports.

He said:

I am looking forward to it… Yeah, absolutely.

It’s a pretty surprising revelation, considering the critical reception of Terminator Genisys which was so poorly received that Paramount Pictures pulled the planned sequel from its scheduled spot in embarrassment, and swapped in Dwayne, The Rock, Johnson and Zac Efron’s Baywatch film instead.

Only last year, Schwarzenegger told fans he would be back for the sixth film in the franchise, suggesting it would begin to film in 2016.

However, the future of the Terminator franchise looked bleak after it took a measly $90 at the U.S. box office and the series was also previously reported to have been put on indefinite hold.

However the film managed to perform much stronger in other markets going on to earn $440.6m worldwide, and it was extremely popular in the Chinese market earning over $100 million in its run there.

Its success was reportedly due to Schwarzenegger’s immense popularity in China, the audience’s love for movies featuring robots, disasters and machines, and for being the first Hollywood movie to be released after the nearly 60 days blackout period in which non-Chinese movies were barred from going to general release in the country.

Far be it from me to say that the rebooted (pun intended) Terminator franchise has something to with China being poised to become the biggest film market in the world, taking the spot from the U.S. (Seriously expect to see a lot more films where China saves the day) but it does seem that Terminator was saved by its foreign box office.

This isn’t the only 80s franchise Schwarzenegger is in talks to return to, earlier this month it was also revealed he may be back for The Predator, which is due for release in 2018.
