Legendary film director Oliver Stone claims a secret service agent told him JFK’s 1963 assassination was an inside job.

Stone says the former U.S. president was executed by his own secret service, according to a confession given to him by an agent on his deathbed, reports The Mirror.

The agent in question – known only as ‘Ron’ – claims he was a former member of the presidential security detail and that ‘somebody from his own team… had fired on the President’.

Ron, who was dying of cancer, said he wanted to reveal what he knew before passing away.

However, Stone, whose 1991 film JFK stars Kevin Costner as District Attorney Jim Garrison – the first man to bring charges in the murder of the president – said at first he was sceptical about the claims.

But having met Ron, the director said he was convinced by the intricate details of his account that he describes as ‘plausible’ and ‘very authentic’.

Stone told author Matt Zoller Seitz:

He said he didn’t want money or recognition. He said something like: “I want you to know this is from my conscience.”

The scenario he laid out was very practical. It’s the way I would do it, if [I] were going to do something like that.

You kill the President, and your cover is security, and if the sniper or snipers who kill the President are hidden in with the guys who are supposed to protect him, guys who have no knowledge of this plot… It makes a lot of sense.

And his memory of it was so technical, filled with military jargon, details about radio communications right after the shots.

The investigation into Kennedy’s death – the Warren Commission – ruled he had been shot by former U.S. marine Lee Harvey Oswald from the sixth floor of the Dallas Book Depository.

Oswald maintained his innocence but before he could be tried, he was himself shot dead two days later while in police custody by local nightclub owner Jack Ruby who was alleged to have numerous mafia connections.

Conspiracy theories regarding the assassination have been rife for 50 years, but to be fair, it makes sense that more than one person was involved in the shooting.

Oswald was by no means an expert marksman – and numerous tests found that even highly trained experts struggled to recreate his shots.

Witnesses report both seeing and hearing shots from locations other than the book depository and film of the incident shows the trajectory of the ‘kill shot’ points to there being a shooter on the infamous ‘grassy knoll’.

Kennedy was proposing major reform of the CIA and huge changes to the balance of power in the U.S. and it’s not implausible that he pissed off the wrong people…
