Bandai Namco’s latest entry in the Tekken series is coming to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in early 2017.
Microsoft confirmed the news during their E3 show, along with a cool new trailer that teases Tekken 7’s story mode. As is the way of Tekken, get ready for hilariously convoluted back story and a lot of vague talk about power and destiny.
This actually marks the first time Tekken has appeared on PC, if you don’t count Street Fighter X Tekken (which was essentially a Street Fighter game with Tekken characters).
Bandai Namco said in a press release:
When it debuts on home consoles and PCs, TEKKEN 7 will deliver numerous modes and enhancements beyond its arcade counterpart, including an epic Story Mode that enables players to fully experience TEKKEN’s canon storyline.
In celebration of this news, Xbox One and 360 users can currently download a backwards compatible version of the excellent Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for free. This will be available until June 21.
Producer Katsuhiro Harada also said that the all-new story mode will transition seamlessly between cinematics and gameplay.
This is evidenced in the below trailer, that shows off Heihachi Mishima battling Street Fighter demon Akuma. Those transitions are as smooth as a jungle cat.
I think after watching this trailer, I’m quite… Tekken with what I’ve seen so far.
