A 15-year-old girl’s mother fought with doctors to get her daughter surgery because she thought her vagina was ‘untidy’.
According to reports the Australian teenager just ‘shrugged and agreed’ when doctors asked her if she wanted plastic surgery on her genitals as her mother had demanded, reports the Daily Mail.
Apparently the mother had told doctors that her daughter’s genitals were ‘not as neat’ as other women’s and that ‘she will never be able to have sex looking like that’. Cheers mum.
Doctors confirmed the girl didn’t need surgery for health reasons, assuring the mother that labia come in ‘all shapes and sizes’, but apparently she persisted…
The incoming president of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, Professor Steve Robson said that all teenagers go through a phase where they worry if their bodies are normal.
Having your mum say a man wouldn’t want to make love with you because you’re untidy is not particularly helpful parenting
Young people should be taught love is about the quality of your heart and not the quality of your genitalia.
There has been a huge rise in requests for genital surgery recently which has been blamed on the large amount of ‘intimate’ images available online – with many young people comparing their genitalia to that of porn stars.
The last thing you need is your mother supporting that view…
