Want to make the most of your sexy time? Well apparently there’s a few things you definitely shouldn’t be doing…

Admittedly the last on your mind before you lose yourself in the throws of passion  is running through a mental checklist.

But, according to New Health Advisor, these are pretty important, not just for your sex but for your health too.

Here are five things you should never do before sex…

Go for a wee…

This applies particularly to girls who know the horror of urinary tract infections (UTIs).

It’s a great idea to urinate straight after sex to prevent them as it flushes out most of the bacteria that can cause infections – not before though.

New York urologist David Kaufman said it’s the number one cause of UTIs, as it means you’re less likely to need to pee after sex.

Take antihistamines…

Although they do help alleviate the less attractive symptoms of hay fever – the medicine also has an alarming effect on your genitals.

Antihistamines work by drying out mucus membranes to stop your runny nose – but also unfortunately, your vagina – not the best obviously.

On top of that it’s also been argued that antihistamines can have the effect of lowering your sex drive in general.

If you can’t get through the summer without them it’s probably best to stock up on lube…

Get massively drunk…

Although alcohol lowers our inhibitions, probably making us more likely to decide to have sex in the first place – many of us are only too aware of the effect it can have on ‘performance’.

For women, natural lubrication can be an issue while for guys the old brewers droop can slam the brakes on any fun.

Wear the wrong size condom…

Condoms that are too large have a much greater risk of slipping off, so it’s best to swallow that pride and make sure it fits just right.

The average erect penis is 5.1 inches long, so with small condoms are 1.75 inches in width and 6.3 inches long and regular an average of 2.0 inches wide and 7.9 inches long most of us should leave the ‘large’ on the shelf – rather than somewhere else…

Shave just before…

This came as a surprise to me, but a lot of healthcare professionals say that shaving just before – especially in the ‘intimate’ regions – can put you at risk of STIs and other infections because of the likelihood of tiny cuts.

Dr Emily Gibson explains in a blog post:

Some clinicians are finding that freshly shaved pubic areas and genitals are vulnerable to herpes infections due to microscopic wounds being exposed to virus carried by mouth or genitals.

So there may be vulnerability to spread of other STIs as well.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’d much rather deal with a bit of stubble…
