Matilda star Mara Wilson has opened up about her sexuality in the wake of the attack at Pulse – an LGBT nightclub – in Orlando.

Mara said she felt compelled to open up to fans following the homophobic attack in which 49 people lost their lives in the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

Mara shared a picture of herself in a gay club from ten years ago to Twitter – along with a string of emotional tweets, reports The Mirror.

She outlined how she found it difficult to fit in but always felt ‘so welcomed’ by the LGBT community:

The majority of Mara’s fans were quick to respond and she was inundated with messages of support:

She said: “Your support is much appreciated. I will say, though, I’m still gonna be pretty private about my relationships, as I always have been.”

However, one person did question Mara’s choice of language saying:

It’s been nearly twenty years since Mara starred as child genius Matilda in the film adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book.

But in the wake of the terrible tragedy in Orlando her message is more important than ever.
