A top doctor who’s been accused of ejaculating on a sedated patient’s face, and sexually assaulting three others, has claimed that his semen got on her cheek by accident.
Dr David Newman, 45, is a respected emergency physician working at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, and has reportedly told police he had masturbated in a lounge before treating the patient, The Mirror reports.
He has alleged that the semen may have dripped onto the 29-year-old woman’s face from a blanket, court documents show. In a police interview on January 12, Newman told officers his embarrassing confession.
I am embarrassed because I [masturbated] in the lounge, and it was possible that the ejaculate may have gone from my hands to the woman’s blanket.
Semen may have also transferred from my hand to her face during the time I treated her. I can’t believe this is happening. My explanation doesn’t make sense. Is she alleging that I raped her?
The woman allegedly told police the doctor knocked her out with morphine when she visited the hospital with a shoulder injury, according to the Daily News.
Dr Newman was charged on Thursday after his DNA matched the semen on the woman’s cheek.
Prosecutors have now accused Newman of preying on the women between the ages of 18 to 29, from August 2015 to January 2016, after they attended the Manhattan hospital for illnesses including a headache, a cold and a rash.
At the hearing at Manhattan Supreme Court, prosecutor Eun-Ha Kim said Newman ‘abused (his) privilege’ as a physician and ‘preyed upon young, vulnerable, minority women’.
Newman denies all the allegations against him.
