19-year-old Lareeb Khan, accused by her father of having ‘dishonoured’ her family, died when Asadullah Khan choked the life out of her whilst she was sleeping.
A court in Darmstadt, Germany, heard how Asadullah and wife Shazia then dressed their daughter before transporting her first by wheelchair, then by car, and abandoned the body on a secluded embankment.
The girl’s father had become enraged when he read a letter from police stating their daughter was found stealing condoms for her and her boyfriend, of whom the parents strongly disapproved, preferring that Lareeb have an arranged marriage.
Lareeb, a dental technician, had struck her father on the night of the killing according to Shazia Khan.
The victim’s mother also told the court that she was a ‘downtrodden woman,’completely under her husbands command, and too weak to stop him on the night of the murder.
But those suggestions were quickly refuted by the couples younger daughter Nida, who no longer has contact with her parents, and is also undergoing therapy.
The sister refused to acknowledge Shazia in court, and told how she had been sent to a relative on the night of the incident in January.
My Mama was not suppressed, she could do what she wanted. She used to hit me with a stick.
We were never allowed to talk about her boyfriend. My father used to say my sister should be forcibly married in Pakistan.”
The trial is ongoing.
