A teenage girl from Brooklyn is in custody after allegedly killing her mum and her mum’s boyfriend.
According to WABC, 15-year-old Destiny Garcia celebrated the New Year after living with the decomposing corpses for around four days. She has now been charged with double homicide after police discovered the bodies of her mum, Rosie Sanchez, and her mother’s live-in partner Anderson Nunez.
UK Complex report that Sanchez was found sitting in a chair with multiple gunshot wounds to her chest, while Nunez’s body was found lying on the living room floor with both gunshot and stab wounds. Police believe the couple were killed on December 27 but Garcia just left their bodies in place – even going to Times Square on New Year’s Eve to ring in 2016.
During questioning, the teenager alleged her mum had been physically abusive toward her on at least one occasion but police say they don’t think the deaths were the result of her fending for her life.
NYPD’s detectives chief Robert Boyce told reporters:
We don’t believe this is at all, initially, an act of self defence. She went and got a gun from another individual that we’re trying to find right now, to commit the homicide.
After confessing to the crimes, Garcia was charged as an adult with two counts of second degree murder and an additional two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
