A 15-year-old Indian girl who was kidnapped, gang-raped, shot and then dumped in a well and left for dead has not only survived, but is now helping to catch her attackers.
Indian police say the girl was taken by a man who had groomed her at a shop run by her uncle on November 22. She was then kept prisoner for a week in an abandoned farmhouse in Greater Noida – a town in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
The girl told the police she was repeatedly raped by three attackers — two of them minors — every time they brought her food until, on Saturday, the gang told her she was being released and taken home to West Delhi. However, the brutal gang then shot her in the chest and stomach with with a .12-bore pistol from close range and threw her naked down a well – leaving her for dead.
Unbelievably the girl survived the torturous ordeal and was found by a passer-by the next day when he heard her faint cries for help.
Her rescuer, Babbal Bhati, told the Times of India:
She was covered in blood and crying when we pulled her out with a rope. Doctors at the hospital couldn’t believe she had survived two bullet wounds overnight.
Having begun to recover physically from the inhuman attack, the victim has been able to identify the ringleader of the gang – named only as Krishan in local media – and his two accomplices and all three have now been arrested and face charges of rape, false imprisonment and attempted murder charges.
Greater Noida police commander Laxmi Chauhan said:
Krishan and two minors raped her every time they brought food for her. On Saturday, they promised to take her home but stopped near a well for a drink. It was here that the girl tried to escape but failed. Krishan caught the victim, thrashed her and shot her twice, but luckily the bullets didn’t damage her vital organs.
