Two pensioners have become viral sensations after CCTV footage of their attempts at stopping an armed robber hit the internet.
Ron Smith, 78, and Robert Anderson, 72, took action when they realised the police were some distance away, and decided to barricade Liam Redford in.
The video has now been viewed 21 million times, with the duo even receiving awards for their bravery.
Police managed to apprehend the 19-year-old, who was armed with a knife, and is now serving a two year prison sentence.
After being told that the video had been viewed so much, Ron said:
Blimey! I would have never thought so many people would seen that.Advertisement
I know how quickly things get shared these days but would never have thought it would be that many.
Wow. I’m speechless. I have had people contact me from America and Scandinavia about the video.
It seems to have grown so much, I can’t understand it.Advertisement
The incident took place three months ago in a P and H Convenience store on Bolton Road, with the pensioners claiming they just did what anyone would have done in their position.
