Following the tragic events in Egypt, in which a Russian plane crashed, killing all 224 people on board, terrorist group and all around bastards Islamic State (ISIS) couldn’t resist the opportunity for some shameless self promotion.
On Saturday afternoon, following the disaster, a group of militants affiliated with ISIS quickly took credit for bringing down the plane.
As reported by Reuters, an ISIS statement posted online said:
The fighters of [ISIS] were able to down a Russian plane over Sinai province that was carrying over 220 Russian crusaders. They were all killed, thanks be to God.
However, the claims are almost certainly complete bollocks.
For starters, the plane was cruising at an altitude of 30,000 miles before it disappeared from the radar, way out of range of any shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles the militant groups have in their arsenal.
Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov added: “This information cannot be seen as credible”, while the grainy footage the group released, purportedly showing them shooting down the plane, has been dismissed as “laughable” by experts.
ISIS have recently declared a “holy war” against Russia and the U.S. because of the countries’ bombing campaigns in Syria, and these false claims from the militant group were no doubt intended to continue to stoke the fears of a terrorist attack against the nations.
