The North Korean leader has worryingly revealed that the country now has a hydrogen bomb – the most powerful weapon on earth – and is capable of using it, along with nuclear warheads.
Reported by rt.com, according to the North Korean Central News Agency, Kim Jong-Un made the statement while inspecting an upgraded arms plant in Pyongyang.
He is reported to have said:
We managed to become a great nuclear power capable of defending the independence and national dignity of our homeland by mighty nuclear and hydrogen strikes
However, South Korean intelligence say North Korea is unlikely to have the scientific knowledge or capability to design and build an H-bomb and as yet, no one has ben able to confirm Kim Jong-Un’s claims.
An intelligence official from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) told Yonhap news agency:
We don’t have any information that North Korea has developed an H-bomb. We do not believe that North Korea, which has not succeeded in miniaturising nuclear bombs, has the technology to produce an H-bomb.

In 2005 North Korea declared it had created nuclear weapons and has since conducted underground nuclear tests three times – all widely condemned by the international community, with the UN Security Council imposing sanctions against the country in 2013 after it threatened a pre-emptive nuclear strike against the US and South Korea.
