The school captain of Sydney’s Ravenswood School for Girls has delivered a farewell speech full of truth bombs. The school’s elite image has been based on propaganda.
Sarah Haynes, 18, gave her end of year speech in front of a packed house of staff, students and parents.
She claims that the school is too business driven. Considering it costs $28,000 a year to attend the school her critique instantly sounds about right.
“I don’t know how to run a school but it seems to me that today’s schools are being run more and more like businesses where everything becomes financially motivated, where more value is placed on those who provide good publicity or financial benefits,” Ms Haynes said.
“I’d love to see Ravo work towards something better where each member of the school feels valued equally.”
Here is the speech in its entirety. Truth bomb deployment commences about two and a half minutes in. She butters them up nicely beforehand, though:
Apparently her previous speeches had been censored by the school, but that certainly wasn’t the case with this one.
Good on her for speaking openly and honestly.
These private schools need their veneer of “perfection” questioned from time to time.
