‘Superhuman’ man who ‘hasn’t slept in over 60 years’ leaves doctors baffled

80-year-old Thai Ngoc has severe insomnia and claims to have barely had a wink of sleep in over 60 years

Of all the superhuman abilities to have, most wouldn’t imagine being unable to sleep would be one of them.

An 80 year-old man has baffled his family members and medical experts as he claims to not being able to sleep.

Thai Ngoc lives in a small village in Vietnam and in over 60 years he has barely slept a wink.

His family have said they were initially weirded out by it but have now gotten used to his lack of sleep.

YouTuber Drew Binsky was determined to track down the man in southern Vietnam and tracked him down in order to spend a night with him (not like that) to see if his claims of insomnia were true.

Ngoc believes his lack of sleep stems from a fever he suffered in 1962 during his childhood. He has also explained that he has gone to the hospital to gain some explanation but that have been unable to offer up any explanation.

Others have suggested that his permanent case of insomnia is tied to an unusual case of PTSD from the Vietnam War.

Regardless of the reason, Ngoc has said ‘it’s frustrating and exasperating.’

“Seeing others sleep, I envy them. On moonlit nights, I usually go out to weed and till the soil because sitting still is unbearable. It's strange that I work twice as much as others, yet my life is still not that prosperous.”

So, since he doesn’t sleep like the rest us, what does he do to keep himself busy during the odd hours of the night?

Ngoc explains that during the day he fills it with work in the field and at night he works on his home brew of wine. Really putting every hour of the day to use, it seems.

Despite his lack of sleep, he did say that sampling shots of rice wine does make him drowsy but is rarely enough to make him catch a few z's.

A translator told Binsky: “When he drinks a a lot, he sleeps a little bit. Maybe one or two hours."

But more often than not, around 4 a.m. he will simply go lie down in his bed but not actually get to sleep, with his mind still racing as it does when he is awake."

Adorably, Ngoc changes into his pajamas each night hoping that he will manage to get a proper nights sleep. But he has said it has been a very very long time since he was able to silence all the thoughts racing in his head.
