Remember that time J.K. Rowling said Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is only a play and will never be a film? Well, it now turns out that may not be true.

To the delight of muggles everywhere, Warner Bros. has reportedly filed for a Class 9 trademark for the Cursed Child.

A¬†Class 9 specifically includes pursuing ‘motion picture films featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation, and motion picture films for broadcast on television featuring comedy, drama, action, adventure and/or animation’, Mic reports.

So, basically, there may just be a good chance the play will turn into a film.

Or there may be absolutely nothing in this at all as J.K. Rowling has already stated that the play is not going to be a movie:

But she could have changed her mind since.

It’s important to note, however, that the trademark also includes merchandising material, so it could just be that they want to sell Harry Potter-themed items.

But considering Hollywood’s inclination to continue money-making franchises like Harry Potter spinoff trilogy Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, the Cursed Child turning into a film (or a few) wouldn’t exactly be a surprise.

And Daniel Radcliffe hasn’t ruled out taking up the role of Potter again. Not to mention, his age wouldn’t make the role reprise too much of a stretch for the Cursed Child’s narrative, which sees Harry as an adult.

With the play still in its preview performances until the end of the month, it’s yet to become a global phenomenon, so we may be getting ahead of ourselves. But then again, it’s Harry Potter isn’t it? It’s already a global phenomenon despite how long the play has or hasn’t been on.

So, while there’s not been an official announcement, I’m sure many muggles out there would agree that the world would welcome a Cursed Child film. You can’t have too much of a good thing.
