Footage has emerged of the moment a tram full of people unite against an abusive racist.
The video was recorded on the Manchester Metro and shows a group of passengers confront a guy who is racially abusing two passengers, reports the Manchester Evening News (MEN).
The clip shows a man – wearing a grey hoodie and blue jeans – being confronted about his behaviour. Witnesses say he told a Spanish couple to ‘speak English’ and ‘go back to their own country’.
One passenger can be heard tackling the man about his comments before another good samaritan tells the man he will call the police if he ‘carries on being racist’.
It is unacceptable in this country and this day and age. I think everyone else on this tram would agree. It is not on.
The guy responds with more racist and homophobic slurs – but then falls silent.
The video was recorded by Manchester resident Jose – who said he shared it to show how amazing the people of Manchester are.
He told the MEN:
The couple were speaking Spanish and this guy was saying ‘speak English’.
They said they would speak in whatever language they wanted and so he said ‘go back to your own country’, it was disgusting. He was being very abusive.
But the reaction from the people on the tram was amazing, for them to stand up to him and tell him it was not on.
Hopefully he will think twice about being like that in the future – and know that people in Manchester won’t put up with it.
We couldn’t agree more.
