A Saudi woman who filmed a clip of her husband sexually harassing and groping their housemaid could face imprisonment. That’s right, the wife could face imprisonment. Why? Because of defamation laws.
The woman secretly shot the encounter between her husband and the maid and he appears to be a fair dinkum sleaze bag.
The woman then shared the footage on social media with the caption: “the minimum punishment for this husband is to scandalise him.”
Here’s the video:
من المضحك ..

The video has gone viral in the last few days in Saudi Arabia and many people have rallied in support of the wife, according to Emirates 24/7.
However, a top Saudi lawyer said the woman could be handed a prison sentence of one year or a fine. There is “stiff punishment for anyone using mobile phones with a camera or other equipment to photograph others and defame them.”
Many maids in the Gulf States are migrants from poor regions in countries like the Philippines, India, Sri Lanka and Nepal. It seems like they get treated horrendously because also today the ibtimes has reported a maid getting her hand chopped off by her employer…
Personally, I think the woman who posted the video of her creepo husband is incredibly brave, you may say she’s naive and shouldn’t put herself at risk knowing the harsh laws, but its actions like hers that could culminate over time to change mindsets and the way women are treated there.
I need to spend some time in /r/aww after reading all this intense stuff. Jeepers.
