If you’re in a party mood, look away now, because you’re about to be seriously alarmed.
Apparently, young people in the UK today are up shit creek in terms of their finances.
That’s because a massive age inequality gap is opening up, with the Equality and Human Rights Commission’s report proving worrying reading for the younger generation.
Alarmingly, only 28.3 per cent of white boys on free school meals achieved at least five GCSEs at A* to C in England in 2012-13.
When you compare that to Chinese boys, the stats become even more alarming, with 76.8 per cent of those on free school meals achieving the GCSE threshold.
During the recession, those under 34 were hit the hardest, seeing the steepest declines in income.
A government spokesman said:
We have made good progress in many areas, by getting two million more people in work, raising wages, and having more children in good or outstanding schools than ever before. But we know there is still some way to go to fix the issues highlighted in this report.
We are committed to building a Britain where hard-working people can succeed and anyone get on in life, irrespective of their background.
Between 2008 and 2013, 16-24 year olds lost 60 pence an hour on average, taking their average pay to £6.70.
For black people between 2008 and 2013, their pay fell £1.20 per hour, again highlighting a rather alarming disparity.
White people were still paid 50p more per hour than minorities, and are half as likely to be unemployed.
Girls perform better than boys at school, but still earn less than their male counterparts when in the world of employment.
So basically, if you’re a female minority between the ages of 16-24, you might as well give up now. Fucking brilliant. Thanks Government!
