A man gave up masturbation for 700 days and he claims the period of abstinence gave him superpowers.

Reddit user, Brohit, stopped masturbating for almost two years and wrote about his experience on the 200,000-strong online community, NoFap, where men and women who are abstaining can share their stories.

In the post, the man claims he felt he’d gained ‘superpowers’ from avoiding porn and masturbating, adding that he experienced ‘sudden increase in confidence, laser sharp focus, more attention from women, easier to find sex’ as well as boosts of energy.

Brohit also felt ‘at peace more often’ after abstaining. His message to other porn addicts contained encouraging sentiments.

He wrote:

If we can learn proper self-control, we can master anything.

I still face the same urges I did 700 days ago, but I like to think that I’m much stronger now.

Happiness and satisfaction comes from within. Just let that void be. Don’t try to fill it with anything. That void within ourselves is what makes us human.

One of the reams of particularly touching stories, written in support of Brohit, comes from a sixteen-year-old called Jonathan, who came across the No Fap community last summer.

Hope and Inspiration for anyone in a deep dark hole. 16 years old. My story. from NoFap

Clearly, this is a problem that affects many men and women, from all backgrounds and ages.

For those that doubt the existence and trauma of suffering with porn addiction, Brohit addressed doubters directly.

After his 700-day journey into ‘fapstinance’, he wrote:

At least now I can take comfort in the fact that if I can control my urge to jerk off then I have developed a strong enough will power to beat an addiction that people blindly don’t even consider an addiction.

Robert Weiss, a senior clinician treating behavioural addictions, recently told The Independent that porn-induced erectile dysfunction is “absolutely” real and damaging to you sexual health.

He said:

If you’re using the hyper-stimulation of internet porn as your sole means of experiencing arousal, you’re hitting your brain up with such a high level of dopamine, and such a high level of expectation around what sex is, then when you get into the real thing, which can be a little smelly, a little wet and a little uncomfortable, it’s like – ‘I’d rather just look at my porn.’

The NoFap social movement has taken to Twitter to disseminate the science behind abstinence and how it can counteract some of the damaging effects porn has on your brain.

The feed claims to be a ‘sex-positive, science-based’ platform dedicated to helping people reboot from porn addiction and ‘get a new grip on life’.

Followers recently participated in something called ‘No Fap September’ which sounds utterly miserable.

But porn addiction is an ever-increasing epidemic and this online community offers those suffering with a safe space to talk through their problems – which most would dismiss out of hand.

Maybe the idea isn’t as horrifying as it sounds.
