May is National Masturbation Month – so why not kick it off with some healthy new habits?

Aside from being a great stress reliever, masturbation also has distinct health benefits, according to the results of a new study.

So along with your diet, exercise, or while you cut down on drinking, why not add a little ‘me time’ to your daily routine?

A study published in European Urology has confirmed a link between men ejaculating regularly and a reduced risk of prostate cancer. And you know this is legit because researchers tracked 30,000 men for almost 20 years to come up with their results.

It’s not the first time the link has been made, but it makes the case even more strongly than before, Pink News reports.

So if you’ve ever been told that masturbation is taboo, don’t listen to them. It’s great for you. Really.

The scientists found that men in their 20s who ejaculated at least 21 times a month were 19 per cent less likely to develop prostate cancer than those who did seven times a month or less.

So technically, you don’t even have to just masturbate. You can have sex with your partner and it would do the same job – as long as you climax.

Even men in their 40s who did it regularly were 22% less likely to get prostate cancer.

The study’s lead author Jennifer Rider told AP:

Ejaculation frequency is, to some extent, a measure of overall health status in that men at the very low end of ejaculation – 0 to 3 times per month – were more likely to have other [medical problems] and die prematurely from causes other than prostate cancer.

In total, out of the 30,000 men studied, 1,041 developed prostate cancer after ejaculating 4 to 7 times a month. Of the men who ejaculated 21 times a month or more, 290 developed prostate cancer. So, to be on the safe side, you pretty much have to do it more than every other day.

I doubt anyone’s complaining, though – it’s for your health, after all.
