It seems nothing is safe from hackers these days and demonstrators at a tech conference in Germany proved that even our most private moments are now at risk.

A presentation – provided by software firm Trend Micro – showed that they could hack into a vibrator and gave a pretty dark insight into the future of web-connected sex toys.

During the event, a spokesperson at the CeBIT tech fair bought out a large pink vibrator and placed it on the desk. After typing just a few lines of code the vibrator starting buzzing.

While the stunt understandably provoked a few laughs, the message warned people about online safety, especially when it comes to private matters, such as sex.

Raimund Genes, Chief Technology Officer at Tokyo-listed Trend Micro, said: “If I hack a vibrator it’s just fun. But if I can get to the back-end, I can blackmail the manufacturer.”

Several sex toy manufacturers have launched products that can connect to smartphones and computers via WiFi and Bluetooth, allowing users to control them and download software updates.

According to experts, companies too often treat security as an afterthought when producing internet-enabled devices.

As I said before, it’s a pretty sobering insight. Imagine putting a hacker in charge of your wanking session!? No-one wants that.
