The sex industry, including prostitution, strip clubs and escort services, are all infamously aimed at men, despite the implied gender neutrality of the word sex.

It’s often said this is because men have a higher libido, but why do they buy more sex?

To find out, film director Alice Russell has taken a peek behind the curtain by getting real explanations from men about their experiences buying sex, Konbini reports.

In a new short film for LOVESICK week on Nownessthe film maker previewed fascinating clips of bloke’s confessing their prostitute-renting habits. Only with a weird twist: the men’s voice clips are dubbed over visuals of women actors miming the brutally honest stories of times they paid for sex.

In the short film one bloke admits to the stark realities of prostitution, saying that he was initially excited but when he saw that the woman had lied about her age and attractiveness felt repulsed.

He said:

I’m thinking if I’m going to be able to cum, I’m not enjoying this don’t find this woman attractive… So I decide to take my thoughts off somewhere else and think of a smoking hot woman and all of a sudden I feel that little tingle and I know I’m going to cum.

He then admitted that despite feeling disgusted with himself and not wanting to go back, he knows he inevitably will.

Russell says she penned the clever short film with the simple aim of addressing the gender imbalances in the sex industry.

She explains that the legalities of buying and selling sex are widely debated, yet the core aspect which is often overlooked is the gender imbalance.

She explains:

The term ‘sex industry’ implies neutrality, but betrays the fact that the majority of those who buy sex are men and the majority of those who sell sex are women.

It seemed fitting to explore the issue of gender inequality through the testimonies of men talking about their experiences of paying for sex.
