More than 28,000 people tune in to porn every second – but how much do we really know about the industry and its performers?

It’s a billion dollar industry, but while business is booming, there are a lot of misconceptions about the life and work of an adult entertainer.

So, to reveal what it’s really like, London pornstar Samantha Bentley answered all of our burning questions about what it’s actually like to work in the sex industry.

Speaking to the Daily Star and Esquire, the 28-year-old, who played a prostitute in Game of Thrones, lifted the lid on her kinky job – starting with her worst on-screen experience.

Bentley, who credits the stripping industry with getting her into porn, said:

There was a guy I worked with in Los Angeles who ended up directly on my no list.

He was inexperienced, vile and covered in fake tan, which rubbed off on me. He ate garlic chicken before we started shooting and didn’t brush his teeth.

I nearly puked and the scene took forever.

Bentley was quick to add that there have been times (no doubt like the garlic chicken incident) where she just closes her eyes mid-act and thinks of her paycheque. Not quite as glamorous as we’d imagine.

The 28-year-old also revealed that – while porn actors may seem convincing – it’s not what it seems:

Sex [on set] is fake, it’s acted, we are in a room full of loads of people, we have cameras shoved in our faces and it’s all choreographed: the positions, the noises, the facial expressions and the emotions.

So behind all the convincing sex scenes, it’s actually just acting – and it’s not always enjoyable for the actors. Bentley says that, like in real life, she doesn’t always orgasm. And no, penis size doesn’t matter according to the adult film star.

Bentley also doesn’t act in porn for the sex, she does it for the performance, saying: “I like to perform, I’ve always been a performer, it’s what I do. Samantha Bentley is a character, she’s not real. I like to play her occasionally.”

If you’re wondering what her family thinks, it’s probably what you’d expect:

Everyone [in my life] knows [what I do]. It took me a while to tell my family just because I felt protective of them. It’s a hard thing to tell your parents.

My mom found out because I came home with my AVN (adult film) award and she said, ‘I know what that award is.’ Then she cried…My dad was different. He just said, ‘You’re my daughter. Of course I know what you’re doing. If you’re happy, I’ll support you and I don’t want to know the details, but I will support whatever you think is right.’

So while the porn industry may look great, it’s not all what it seems – despite all that convincing acting.
