There is some good news for those of us who probably watch a little bit more porn than we should, because according to one survey, it’s not as addictive as other things that are classed as ‘bad for us’.

The survey was published in the journal of Biological Psychology, and showed that porn addicts showed a lower and not a higher preference for sexually explicit images, which let’s be honest, is pretty much the exact opposite of what you might expect.

55 of the 122 people who were surveyed had a problem with porn, and it turned out that the response the brain had to watching ‘blue movies’ was not the same as the response when in the presence of other addictive substances such as tobacco or alcohol.

The candidates were shown pictures categorised as ‘pleasant, natural and unpleasant’ and the porn addicts showed a lower preference for the explicit images.

The LPP (late positive potential) reflects the intensity of an emotional response and intensifies far more for those who are addicted to a substance such as cocaine.

Sexual psycho-physiologist and lead researcher Nicole Prause claimed:

The findings provide clear evidence that porn does not look like other addictions.

So in other words, porn is not as addictive or harmful to you as smoking or drinking would be. Although sex addicts might disagree with that sentiment.
