A Mexican police officer is facing the sack after taking a topless selfie in her patrol car with a semi-automatic gun on her lap.

Nidia Garcia has been put on gardening leave after the photo somehow managed to end up on Facebook, reports The Sun.

The picture, which has now been deleted from Facebook, lead her to be immediately stripped of her duties.

Her bosses apparently identified her by the badge on her right sleeve (not by her face?) after they were alerted to the snap of her reclining on the back seat of her squad car.

According to reports, Garcia has not made any official comment since being suspended from her police job in Escobedo, a city in northern Mexico.

However, the mother-of-two did post what appears to be a heartfelt apology to her Facebook page:

I was wrong in letting myself be photographed in my hours of work while still wearing the uniform of an officer.

I want to ask a huge apology to the secretary of security and Justice of proximity and more to my municipality general Escobedo for this immoral act on my part.

I feel disgusted by the great damage caused and the damage done mainly to my two daughters, followed by my husband, my parents, brothers and entire family.

She has also posted a couple of other photos accompanied by the captions: “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger,” and: “Nobody is perfect.”

So it seems like she isn’t letting the incident get her down too much.
