SWNS MODEL TEACHER 39 1 This Tweet Perfectly Nails The Double Standard Between These Two Underwear ModelsSWNS

Two stories about teachers who also work as underwear models have hit the headlines this week, but for very different reasons.

21-year-old Gemma Laird was recently fired from her teaching assistant position after her modelling photos were discovered by a parent at the school.

But sexy male teachers? They’re allowed to stay in the classroom.

Pietro Boselli is a 28-year-old maths teacher and part-time model from Italy. He was dubbed the ‘world’s sexiest teacher last year after his students Googled him and found his modelling pictures – and he’s been given an Armani contract.

The disturbing double standard was summed up by Twitter user @shanalala_:

And if you didn’t get it the first time:

The comparison has been shared nearly 20,000 times.

As some Twitter users have pointed out though, Boselli pursued modelling only after starting his teaching career, while Laird started out as a lingerie model and then moved into teaching. Users also argued that they teach different age groups – Pietro is a University tutor, while Gemma works with primary school pupils.

Although the news stories may not be exactly identical, they highlight the same underlying issue of double standards. We’ve seen it countless times before – women are criticised for their displays of sexiness while men are celebrated when they do the same.

It’s reflected not only in these stories, but in countless others – including tabloids. Male ‘thirst traps’ like The Game are often met with delight while celebrities like Emily Ratajkowski and Kim Kardashian-West are criticised for sharing sexy photos of themselves.

Not to mention Amber Rose, who has spoken out against double standards and criticised people who refer to her as a former stripper, while ignoring other high-profile celebrities who have the same background.

Whether it be in the real world or Hollywood, double standards has become a major issue that needs to be addressed.
