Around a year and a half ago, Playboy announced that they were doing away with nudity.

Their reasoning? “The political and sexual climate of 1953, the year Hugh Hefner introduced Playboy to the world, bears almost no resemblance to today.”

But earlier this week, the magazine had a change of heart. They announced they’d be bringing nudity back. After all, ‘naked is normal’, as the title of their March/April issue says.

In it will feature Harry Potter actress Scarlett Byrne. She’s best known as Slytherin’s Pansy Parkinson, but she also happens to be engaged to Hugh Hefner’s son, Cooper.

And now she’s officially a Playboy model.

In addition to featuring in the magazine, the 26-year-old also wrote an essay titled, The Feminist Mystique.

The move back to nudity was announced by her fiance and Playboy’s chief creative officer, Cooper, earlier this week.

He wrote on Twitter:

I’ll be the first to admit that the way in which the magazine portrayed nudity was dated, but removing it entirely was a mistake. Nudity was never the problem because nudity isn’t a problem. Today we’re taking our identity back and reclaiming who we are.

Today, the magazine is 64 years old, its creator is 90 and it’s difficult to deny that its style has been decidedly outdated.

Gone is the surgically enhanced models of yesteryear and instead, the new Playboy sees naked as normal and natural – a welcome change.
