Following the sad death of his father – the Duke of Westminster – 25-year-old Hugh Grosvenor has just become the UK’s third richest person.
Hugh – godfather to Prince George – has inherited the title and estate of his dad, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor, who sadly passed away on Tuesday afternoon, reports The Telegraph.
According to Forbes, the Duke had amassed a fortune of around £8.3 billion – making him the 68th richest person in the world, and the third richest in the UK.
Hugh, who has now become the 7th Duke of Westminster, is a former student at Newcastle University, whose extravagant 21st birthday party made headlines.
The celebration is rumoured to have cost a whopping £5 million, with comedian Michael McIntyre and Rizzle Kicks providing the entertainment while Prince Harry was among the 800 guests.
Aside from his spectacular celebration, Hugh has kept a pretty low profile and in spite of his family’s incredible wealth, he went to a state primary school and then a private day school.
And it’s not just Hugh who is mates with the Royals – his mum, the Duchess of Westminster, is Prince William’s godmother and his sister, Lady Edwina is married to historian (and TV royalty) Dan Snow.
As well as the family estate at Eaton Hall in Cheshire, the property portfolio Hugh inherits includes 300 acres in Belgravia and Mayfair, two of London’s most expensive districts.
